Chickens As Pets?

Perhaps it is a big question mark for you to be reading the title, chickens as pets? Aren't they supposed to be fed, grown, killed and then eaten? Perhaps, but maybe they can be treated as pets too. Cuddle and pet them just like any dog or cat you may own.

One who might agree with this connotation maybe those individuals who choose to take care of prime roosters in order to ready them up for a cockfight. Another one might be one who just loves to take care of animals and may want to take care of a chicken.

Bear in mind though that once you decide to care for chickens, you will need a lot of poultry supplies to allow your chicken to flourish in your care.  You will need to build a house for it, perhaps a chicken coop. If you have an open backyard, you might want to fence it up so your chicken don’t go wondering out. You will need a lot of feeds especially if you’re planning on taking in more than one as well as other things your chicken might need. You will need to find a good supplier to ensure that you have everything you will need to take care of your chicken.

On average a chicken can live up to about 10 years but they can go as high as 15, so you do have a long time to spend with your chicken, they also typically start to lay eggs by 5-6 months, so get ready to catch those eggs. When your chicken lays eggs you can either choose to eat them, or hatch them up and add more chicken to the family. If you are planning growing your own eggs or perhaps making it a business, then perhaps growing more chickens first before choosing to eat them is the best choice, that way you will have more chickens to give you more eggs in the future.

Regardless of what you want to do with your chicken, eat them, choose to keep them as pets or use them to advance your finances, one thing is for certain, you will need a lot of poultry supplies from reputable suppliers to ensure you get the highest quality for your chicken so whatever option you choose, your chicken will stay healthy and strong to give your more fun years.
